In these upcoming blogs I will upload some pictures of my solotrip through Sri Lanka and adventure that started in January of this year in Negombo a fishermen's town on the west coast of Sri Lanka and located about 40 km north of the capital Colombo.
I arrived on January 2nd at Bandaranaike International Airport not too far from Negombo and decided to crash in the nearest town which turned out to be Negombo indeed.
People here depend completely on the fishing industry and all of the extra money comes from tourism.
The people living around Negombo Lagoon where the fishing industry is based don't have a lot to live on and their conditions were quite shocking to me. The poverty and lack of hygiene in these places really had an impact on me, especially because the people were so warm and friendly to me as a visitor.
September to April is a crucial time of year because of the fishing season and after a long night of fishing their catches are brought straight to the market. There are also fish auctions for the tourists to visit which are a good way to get to know the fishermen of Negombo and plan fishing tours to go on.
But of course you can also spend your time here on beautiful Negombo Beach one of the nicer beaches on the west coast of Sri Lanka where you will also find the most hotels.
After my stay in Negombo I continued my journey towards Colombo a destination which can be reached by road or train like I did. I paid 40 Sri Lankan Rupees for my Negombo Colombo train ticket which is about 35 USD cents.
Did you enjoy Negombo Sri Lanka and have you been on a holiday in Negombo, Sri Lanka?
